Topic: My Therapist

Anonymous A started this discussion 5.2 years ago #2,619

I have been a client with the same therapist for a few years. Now that my divorce is almost over I may not be able to see him as often as I was while married and still under my husband full income which was twice a week, therefore my therapist has offered to see me without pay does this happen often.

Were you paying as private pay, did you use insurance, were you on sliding scale fee to begin with, what kind of fees do they allow?

Once I am committed to caring for a client, I will continue to see that person even if he or she cannot pay a cent. Many therapists are like that. Other workers may have their own economic struggles, and so will not be able to see people on a pro bono basis in this way, and they should not be judged. This is an individual matter. We all have to pay our bills.

Non-profits are required to see a set number of pro bono clients for
(I think each therapist) that works at the non profit. I know at the
one I go to (each therapist)signs an agreement to see a certain number of
pro bono clients. I have some single moms and divorced friends who
go as pro bono clients. They also have at least one or two medi- care
and medi- caid approved therapist.
